Our plans for the next five years
What do we want to achieve for people in Haringey?
We want our starting point to be people. What can we do to make life better for people in Haringey when it comes to their mental and physical health and wellbeing? If we think about people’s needs first, everything else should fall into place.
We know that more people than ever before are living with a long term condition like diabetes or breathing problems. We want to make sure that people have everything they need to feel confident that they can manage their condition and continue to live their normal life. If their health gets bad, we want people to know where to turn to get the medical help that they need to get them back on track.
We want to make sure that people have a choice about how, where and when they access information and support from health and social services. This means being creative about how information and services are provided so that they work for everyone, irrespective of where they live, their age or their background.
We want there to be lots of services for people near to where they live that are convenient for them to use, when they need to use them. An example might be allowing people to receive benefits and welfare advice at the same time that they visit their doctor. We also want to focus on making sure that services appear seamless for the people who use them so that people don’t really notice the difference between one provider and another.
People are living longer, and we want to continue to focus on how we can help older people to live independently for as long as possible. We also want make sure that young people get the best start in life and are equipped to make healthy decisions which will positively impact their lives as adults.
We need to change the way we think about primary care services and how and where they can be reached by everyone who lives in Haringey. We know that most people don’t like going to hospital and would prefer to be treated in or near to their homes. So we want people to go to hospital less and only when they really need it. We also know that for some illnesses, like having a stroke, people have much better care and results if they are treated in specialist hospitals, where clinical expertise and patient numbers are concentrated, even if it means travelling a bit further.
We need to do more with less money and still make sure that everyone in Haringey always experiences safe and high quality care. We want to equip people to always feel able to make informed choices about their own health and care, and that of the people they care for.

Our five year plan has been informed by the many conversations that have happened throughout the year with different stakeholders, including at public meetings, engagement visits, Network meetings and stakeholder events. We will continue to offer people in Haringey the opportunity to inform the CCG’s plans and shape and improve the quality of services, in line with our engagement strategy.
